OFF BEAT

Off beat was a choreography intended not to be in synch with the music, but rather to let the movements be the ones dictating the pace and rhythm of the dance. I played with pauses and repetitive movements. I questioned myself what is the music my body creates? How to let the music become the background noise? How do we fight or incorporate the noise and chaos around us? How do we move when we are feeling off? 

Off Beat was presented at the Student Sharing event in May 2024 with Inkorpora Project in Aleksanterin Teatterin for the contemporary and ballet students. Helsinki. The dancers I got the pleasure to danced with and shared this dance piece were Nina Pastel and Maria Soderhölm.
